In this text James O. Young presents his latest book, A History of Western Philosophy of Music (Cambridge University Press, 2023), reflecting on its relevance for understanding the most relevant debates in the philosophy of music and its influence on mankind. The intention of this text –which responds to a commission to the author– is to make this book known and to encourage debate on the issues addressed in it.
