Resumen
The essay film derives from a controversial literary form and shares with it the condition of being "between" - between the philosophical thinking, scientific tractate, personal reflection, poetry, and experiment status. Being the result of Renaissance humanism, it owes to it its subjectivist character and its mode of expression through the projection of being of the essayist. The two essays: the literary one and the audiovisual one imply the introduction of a more experimental form and a break from the classical tradition that denied the legitimacy of the self as a supporting argument. Each director- essayist is obliged to reinvent the concept of an essay almost from the beginning. Among all possible identification features the two are essential for both types of an essay: reflexivity and subjectivity.
