Résumé
This paper offers an innovative and unconventional approach to the relationship between painting and fracture mechanics on the basis of previous research of the author in the field of fracture and structural integrity of cold drawn pearlitic steel in inert and aggressive environments (environmentally assisted cracking, stress corrosion cracking, hydrogen assisted cracking, hydrogen assisted fracture and hydrogen embrittlement being important specific cases, as well as the analyses in each particular situation of fatigue & fracture crack paths in inert and corrosive media), in the conceptual framework of his thoughts and reflections about the philosophy of arts and humanities and its relation with science. In the present paper, novel connections and links are established between fatigue, fracture mechanics & structural integrity of progressively cold drawn pearlitic eutectoid steel bars and wires (on one side) and painting (on the other side).
