This paper analyzes the percentages of use of the pretéritos perfectos to establish a con-trast between Spain and America studying two variables: the type of register used (written/oral) and the behavior of the pretérito perfecto simple and pretérito perfecto compuesto when they appear modified by the temporal adverbs: hoy, ya, nunca, and siempre..The results obtained thanks to the CORPES XXI database indicate that the adverb hoy is the one that makes the greatest difference between Spain and America, while the marker siempre supposes an approximation in the use of the pretérito perfecto compuesto on both sides of the Atlantic. On the other hand, it will be necessary to take into consideration the oral discourse in which the presence of the perfecto compuesto comes to have averages very similar to those of Spain in some american countries.
