Sintomatología depresiva y práctica de ejercicio físico en situaciones de daño físico/lesión en estudiantes universitarios

Resumen
El objetivo del presente estudio fue examinar la relación entre la sintomatología depresiva y la persistencia en la práctica de ejercicio físico en presencia de daño físico o lesión. Se analizaron datos aportados por 345 estudiantes universitarios (52.50 % mujeres) con edades comprendidas entre 18 y 37 años (Medad = 21.67; DTedad = 3.48) que manifestaron realizar ejercicio físico de forma recreativa al menos una vez por semana. Los datos fueron analizados mediante análisis de regresión empleando un método de estimación robusto de máxima verosimilitud (MLR). En dichos análisis se controlaron los efectos de la edad, el género, el índice de masa corporal, el estado de salud percibido, la frecuencia de práctica de ejercicio físico y el nivel de riesgo de presencia de trastornos de la conducta alimentaria. En el primer análisis de regresión, la sintomatología depresiva (β = .193, IC 95 % = .098 a .288, p < .001) explicó una proporción significativa de varianza de la práctica de ejercicio físico en presencia de daño físico o lesión (18.30 %). En el segundo análisis de regresión, la práctica de ejercicio físico en presencia de daño físico o lesión (β = .186, IC 95 % = .111 a .261, p < .001) explicó una proporción significativa de varianza de la sintomatología depresiva (18.80 %). Los hallazgos presentados plantean la necesidad de profundizar en el examen de las variables que podrían condicionar la relación entre la sintomatología depresiva y la práctica de ejercicio en presencia de daño físico o lesión, así como el posible carácter causal de la misma.
