The investigations carried out during the last forty years in the Pintia Archaeological Zone have yielded privileged information to build the identity of the vaccean culture; very particularly noteworthy are those carried out in the Las Ruedas cremation cemetery, which is the only one excavated and documented in the entire vast vaccean region. In the light of these works, it seems necessary to overcome the paradigm of celtiberization for these central lands of the Duero. Neither ethnic, nor cultural, nor temporally is it correct to speak of “celtiberization” and its derivatives when referring to the Vaccean people. There was no phenomenon of cultural homogenization at the height of the second Iron Age that diluted previous identities. Quite the opposite, it is worth pointing out their developments of ethnogenesis –with the logical interdependencies– which will give rise to the varied pre-Roman peoples, among whom the Vacceans must have played a crucial role as a consequence of their location in the center of the Duero Basin.
