Abstract

This study is an update of our knowledge regarding the amphitheatres located in the vicinity of legionary and auxiliary camps during the High Empire. On the basis of new archaeological and epigraphic findings, and of the most recent studies on the Roman army and spectacula, an update of the list of such amphitheatres, together with their characterization, is undertaken, placing special emphasis on their possible functions
