Abstract

In the public debate of the patriots during the Jacobin triennium, the education of citizens was continually insisted upon as a vital necessity for a regenerated homeland. For this reason, the Italian women patriots claimed in their speeches their right to education as a necessary requirement for being considered citizens. This chapter analyzes three speeches pronounced by two Jacobin women at the Gran Circolo Costituzionale of Bologna: those of Teresa Negri Rasinelli and Geltrude Sgargi.
