Abstract

As sustainability engagement approaches has recently gained attention in the business world, there has also been a growing interest in the integration of sustainability in the area of human resources, especially in the so called "sustainable human resource management". This paper aims to analyze whether corporate practices and actions in human resources sustainability have influenced organizational resilience during the COVID-19 pandemic crisis. To this end, we have selected a large sample of Spanish companies, with available data referring to projections of sustainability scores provided by a specialized rating agency. These scores measure eleven different sustainability dimensions related to sustainability in the human resources management practices. Our results suggest that some initiatives in sustainable human resource management may have had a dampening effect on the impact on those companies that have implemented such actions. This impact is particularly significant in controlling high levels of leverage during the pandemic period.
