Reflejo del paisaje en los nombres de los pueblos en las Relaciones Topográficas de Felipe II

Abstract

This article analyzes how the landscape is reflected in the names of the villages included In the Topographical relations of Philipe II, from three provinces of Castilla la Nueva: Madrid, Toledo and Ciudad Real. The objective of this work is to know how the physical environment determined the socio-territorial identification of the inhabitants and, especially, what landscape elements were perceived as environmental referents more featured. After analyzing the responses, we have concluded that the etymological origin of the names is due above all to hydraulics, vegetation and relief. However, there have been quite a few cases where names that contain environmental elements are added other names of different origin.
