Abstract

Urban nature, especially that of proximity, is now assigned a major role in physical and mental health. The domestic comfort associated with the home after Covid-19 has also been ‘revalued’. There is no explicit research that incorporates this vector into the role of the nearby (in everyday life) urban park. This paper tries to advance in relationships and possible values in the triad nature-park-domesticity. To do this, it first makes a double bibliographic search, which brings keys to the benefits of nature and public space to characteristics of the ‘home-like’, such as appropriation and refuge; and which situates comfort and everyday creative freedom as optimal features of the domestic for their externalisation to the park. Then, through participant observation, an ethnography in four green spaces in Valladolid (Spain), highlighting practices linked to their ‘domesticity’, is elaborated, and the socio-spatial connotations on which it feeds are discussed. Finally, it concludes that these domestic practices, in peaceful coexistence with others, can be symptom and way to achieve the desired vitality of healing public gardens.
