Abstract

Physical activity offers the possibility of extending authomy for a longer life period,reducing functional limitations of aging. Literature shows that older people may benfit of physicalactivity in several ways. In this review, present recomendations of prescriptions for older people areexamined. It is important to outline that benefits of physical activity may not be obtained unless it ispracticed regularly. Therefore, professionals of physical activity that deal with older adults are cha-llenged to design physical activity programs that provide adecuate motivation to develope (train)diferent components of fitness related with older adult’s health (endurance, strenght, flexibility andbalance) through daily activity
