Abstract

Virtual and remote laboratories are very useful in engineering fields, especially in university environments, because access to physical laboratories is limited, expensive and requires physical space. In particular, in the field of optical communications and networking, this is especially true. This paper presents the design and implementation of a remote and virtual system using LabVIEW, to be applied to the analysis of the physical layer in Gigabit Passive Optical Networks (PONs), which are of particular relevance due to their level of penetration in the global market. The system allows interaction with real laboratories at a long distance and in an active way, which provides an experience close to real situations that can be found in the professional field.
