Resumen

Although it is well established that some mechanorecep-tors depends totally or in part of the brain-derived neurotro-phic factor (bdnF) and its receptor trkb for developmentand maintenance, cells expressing these proteins at the periphery are poorly characterized, and large differences werenoted among species. On the other hand, the neurotrophindependence of pacinian corpuscles is largely unknown. Inthis study we analysed expression of bdnF and trkb in thecutaneous pacinian corpuscles of Macaca fasciculata usingdouble immunohistochemistry and laser confocal-scannermicroscopy. the results demonstrate expression of bdnF,co-localized with s100 protein, in the schwann-related cellsforming the inner core of pacinian corpuscle. Conversely, trkb was selectively detected in the central axon, co-locali-zed with neuron-specific enolase. these results provide evi-dence for the presence and segregation of a full neurotrophinsystem in the inner core-axons complex of pacinian corpus-cles, and claim for the occurrence of paracrine effects withinthem to maintain the trophism of sensory neurons innervating pacinian corpuscles, and presumably the pacinian corpuscles themselves. moreover, present data provide evidencefor the large differences in the expression of bdnF-trkb inmammalian mechanoreceptors.
