Abstract

In Step Across This Line, Salman Rushdie (2003: 425) asserts that migrations are “the distinguishing feature of our times.” He describes the fears, obstacles and dangers that the decision to migrate brings with it. Rushdie argues that the voyager must refuse the other’s definition of the boundary, must transgress against the limits of what fear prescribes by stepping across the line. The journey creates us, he says. We become the frontiers we cross.
