Abstract
This research addresses the relationship between transformational, transactional, and Laissez-Faire leadership styles, and five dimensions of innovation in the industrial sector of Castilla y León, with the aim of addressing an existing gap in the literature on the impact of leadership, with respect to some typologies of innovation and certain sectoral approaches. To this end, an in-depth review of the scientific literature has been carried out, delving into the conceptualisation of leadership, innovation and innovative capacity, as well as the study of the effects of different types of leadership on the performance and innovative capacity of organisations. Through out a quantitative analysis with the participation of ninety five manufacturing companies, it has been analysed their leadership and innovation practices, developing a characterisation analysis of their leadership and innovation practices, while carrying out a correlational analysis with the aim of unravelling the effects that leadership has on innovation in this type of company, and an inferential analysis related to general characterisation variables. The findings reveal a significant correlation between transformational and transactional leadership with innovation, highlighting the positive effects of transformational and contingent leadership, and the unfavourable effects of Laissez-Faire. This study enriches the understanding of the role of leadership in innovation, offering insights for industry specific leadership strategies.
