Abstract

The study of film rewritings of literary texts, like any comparative study involving at least two terms, often entails the possibility, if not the necessity, of subtly or blatantly privileging one of them, the point of departure or the point of arrival. By proposing the study of adaptation as a version, the deviation of the adaptation from the literary source is taken for granted, to focus on the analysis of this deviation in relation to the acculturation. The aim of this article is to analyse in depth Bram Stoker's non-fiction Dracula to compare it with Jesús Franco's film based on this masterpiece. Franco's film is presented from the vampire's point of view. Franco does not use Stoker's hypotext but a particular version in which he appropriates the novel to create a film different from its literary source.
