Mythology is a constant source of literary material for the contemporary writer who finds in it timeless elements, which, nev-ertheless, resonate with new vibrations today. On this ground, this paper analyses the modern image of Cheoyong, a Korean mythical character whose origins date back to the late Silla period (9th century), in poets Shin Seok-Cho (1909-1975) and Kim Chunsu (1922-2004). In these poets’ works, we can see a reformulation of the myth from a contemporary perspective and an adaptation of Cheoyong’s character to the changing nature of society without losing the links with tradition.
