Resumen

The effects of various recovery media: nutrient agar (NA), dextrose tryptone agar (DTA), antibiotic assay medium (AAM) and tripticase soy agar (TSA) on survival counts and DT and z values of heat treated spores of B. stearothermophilus were studied. NA, DTA and AAM provided very similar results in recoveries, DT and z, while, when TSA was used, a few higher z values and a 50% lower counts and DT values were obtained. The presence of sodium chloride in the plating media decrased the levels of recovery and DT values. Failure of different lots of nutrient agar to support the growth of B. stearothermophilus was due to a calcium deficiency in the medium.
