Abstract

One of the most difficult challenges for our society is probably to consider and preserve modern and contemporary residential architecture as heritage. This paper focuses on this challenge from the perspective of the relationship between residential architecture and cinema. There is an extensive filmography of the enormous possibilities that modern residential spaces offer to the world of cinema. The Ennis House (F.LL. Wright. 1924), the Malaparte House (Adalberto Libera; Curcio Malaparte, 1937) and the Dr. Curutchet House (Le Corbusier, 1949-53) are outstanding examples sense. All of them are residential buildings of important heritage value, which is increased when the cinema came into its spaces. Following the previous information, the paper presents the work developed by the GIRAC (Grupo de Investigación Reconocida de Arquitectura y Cine de la Universidad de Valladolid) and the Valladolid Film Office (VAFO) in order to make the funding of their conservation and their enhancement compatible
