Abstract

The Segovia’s building popularly known as Torreón de Lozoya can be considered, in its sgrafitto decorations, an absolutely unique monument in the history of architecture. It is a palatial group, chaired by the great tower that gives it its name, whose constructive impulses were concentrated in two periods: one late medieval and other Renaissance, coinciding with the key moments in the development of the two streams that characterise the European Sgraffito, being this building receiver of both. The first, with Islamic and Mudejar roots; the second, born in Italy and spreaded by much of the continent during the 16th century. This article deals with the study of decorative techniques that fall within the building, providing arguments for understanding the evolution of Sgraffito in our country and in the rest of Europe.
