Resumen

This paper describes the conceptions held by a group of 45 students of the Degree in Primary Education about geo- logical time. These conceptions were elucidated by means of a questionnaire consisting of a timeline task, where students had to sequence seven key events in the history of Earth and life, and two questions related to the absolute age of the formation of our planet, the events and their duration. Results indicate that students presented serious difficulties working with scales and absolute ages, being common to observe contradictions between the values proposed in the timelines and the absolute ages given to each event. Most problematic events when placing them on the timelines were the most modern ones, which also involved the shortest periods of time. Finally, some implications are proposed to work the geological time in the classroom.
