Resumen

Organic production tries to use systems based on natural substances and processes, and when there is a health problem natural products from plants would rather be used than other. Garlic has been used for infectious problems for a long time, and it has showed to be useful in vitro with digestive diseases. We have studied the effect of garlic in the diet on growing performance of organic chickens, comparing a group without garlic and another one with 2% of milled garlic in feed. Animals were weighted at the beginning (1 day), at 38 days and at the end of fattening. Chickens with garlic in their diet had better weight at 38 days (620.92 ± 48.38 g) and at 66 days (1,190.62 ± 109.49 g) than control group (484,06 ± 90,83 g and 1,007.81 ± 111.69 g) (p<0.01). Average daily gain in first period of fattening and considering the whole fattening were also better: 15.06 ± 1.27 g/day vs. 11.45 ± 2.38 g/day (0-38 days) and 17.30 ± 1.65 g/day vs. 14.53 ± 1.69 g/day (0-66 days). So, we conclude that productive parameters are better in organic chickens fed with garlic supplement, as it had been showed before in broiler.
