Resum
The effect of thyme or clove essential oil addition to the sheep diet was evaluated. In each trial forty animals in organic production system and at the same stage of lactation was divided into two equal groups that were fed the same diet but the treated group received 5 mg of essential oil per day and animal dissolved in Melaza Morea®. Milk samples were taken on 0, 10, 20 and 30 days of treatment and analysed for fat, protein, lactose, dry extract, pH, acidity, total polyphenols and antioxidant capacity. The results showed a significant increase of fat content for both essential oils and of total polyphenols for clove essential oil. Moreover a significant increase of protein the first days of treatment was observed for thyme essential oil addition. These results point out to that essential oil addition to the ewe’s diet improved the ruminal activity especially energetic and proteic metabolism.
