Abstract

ABSTRACT: In this paper we show that Cervantes made profitable use of Rhetoric, examining the rhetorical devices that one of his characters, Marcela, employs in the speech that she pronounces in chapter 14 of the first part of «Don Quixote». Marcela is the prototype of the elusive woman, and in her speech does not use emotional resources, using only rational arguments. The following discourse items are analyzed: gender discourse, its degree of defensibility, status causae, partes orationis and characteristics of the same and ideas or probationes used in the argumentatio.
