Abstract
Grammar ceased to be the central objective of SFL classrooms a long time ago and the focus shifted towards communication; however, there is a small group of constructions and grammatical elements that continue to be taught in a more traditional way, as in the case of conditional sentences. These pages are intended to demonstrate that explanatory patterns inherited from grammar are being perpetuated in the teaching of this content, which hard-ly contribute to the development of the communicative competence of our students. To do so, the result of an analysis of this type of sentences in a corpus of SFL manuals is presented and it is related to the various contributions of general grammar.
